Sherlock Holmes sprang to his feet the moment that she was gone and rushed into his room.

On inquiring(调查) at Number 13, we found that no one of the name either of Sawyer or Dennis had ever been heard of there.”

The idea excited Gregson so much that he laughed until he started coughing.

①佛寺旁院，是旅店最幽静的部分。团体包房，喜欢在寺外阳坡的新楼里;一般散客，也多嫌古老僧舍改造的客房有潮气。我却觉得那古院巨松、瓦房游廊别具魅力，选择了其中一间东厢房，住进去整理书稿。除了周末，那院里住客寥落，有时候就只有我一位。
②院里不仅有三株冲天油松，还有两棵西府海棠，枝叶垂地，初秋虽无花可赏，但点缀着玉黄色小果的茂密绿叶，风姿不让春葩。南墙两侧则是几丛翠竹。墙外有个套院，小小石桥跨过小小眼镜湖，湖里睡莲开紫花，有小小的锦鲤在绿波下摆尾游弋。湖边有多种树木，最显眼的是高高的柿树，结出的柿子太多，啪嗒，会眼见着金黄的柿子落地，想是树枝不耐重负故意抖落。
③摆弄电脑里文稿累了，到院里散步，是最惬意的时光。翘起大尾巴的黑松鼠像表演杂技，瞬间就从油松枝上游梭到竹丛，又跃向另一株油松高处。野鸽子咕咕叫，觉得就在身边，但寻觅其身影却非易事，倒是黑白花和灰蓝色的喜鹊极其大方，时时在身边低飞，还喳喳不体。

⑥我从就要当做垃圾扔掉的杂草里，挑出了几茎还颇完好的野薄荷，布满细绒毛的多齿叶片，还有茎端那爆裂为无数鳞片的淡蓝泛粉的小小柱形花，仿佛都在微微喘息。我从卫生间取出一只闲置的玻璃杯，插上那野薄荷，搁在了电脑边。
