贺龙、任弼时、肖克、关向应、王震等领导的第二、六军团，于1935年11月撤离湘鄂川黔革命根据地，途经洞口县境，北上抗日。虽然几十年过去了，但当年红军留下许许多多感人肺腑的动人事迹，深深地铭刻在老人们的心里，流传在广大的群众中，现在回忆起来，仍记忆犹新，津津乐道。

她走到房内，一位女战士非常和气地请她坐下，像亲姐妹一样和她拉起了家常。在交谈中她问女战士：“你是哪个的老婆?”女战士很爽快地告诉她：“我是贺龙同志的爱人，今晚住在你家，真麻烦你了。”她知道了住在她家里的是红军的大官贺龙主席一家人，不好意思地说：“这房子不好，没有好好收拾，真对不起你们，”女战士说：“等打完仗以后，穷人就有好房子住了。”
第二天清早，部队要走了，有些战士在收拾行装，有些在打扫卫生，有个战士走到欧阳香元嫂嫂雷青菊面前(住她对门)再三询问是否有损坏和丢失的东西，雷青菊讲：“只有一个木脸盆没看到。”那个战士不一会拿了一个铜脸盆对她说：“如果找不到就用这个脸盆，找到了就留做纪念，红军的纪律都是贺主席规定的，你一定要收下。”贺主席和战士们走时，群众都含着热泪相送，战士们
也不时地回头，依依惜别。
几十年过去了，欧阳香元没有忘记当年的“贺主席”。1956年，她看到中华人民共和国十大元帅的挂像时，一眼就认出了当年住在自己家里的贺主席，高兴地说：“你们看，我们的贺主席又回岩山来了，又到我们家里来了。”
可敬的先烈
第二、六军团自从撤离湘鄂川黔革命根据地后，国民党的军队始终跟踪他们、搜索他们，妄图把他们消灭在长征途中。12月21日中午，从高沙开往花园的第六军团，有的在李家渡一带休整，有的在行进途中。战士们虽然头上都用树枝、绿叶作了伪装，但国民党飞机还是发现了目标，丧心病狂的投下了6颗炸弹，20位战士当场光荣牺牲，数十名战士受伤。
当时年仅12岁的王康元正赶着牛回家，一位红军战士见状，急忙跑过去，尸把将王康元按倒在地，用自己的身体掩护他。王康元安然无恙，而那位战士却血流如注。王康元的叔父王仁德知道后，深为红军战士舍已救人的精神所感动，为了报答红军战士的救命之恩，他冒险同李明生、刘大炳等20多个贫苦农民一道，将烈士的遗体安葬在蛇形山一块空地上。但红军走后不久，一些土豪劣绅心怀鬼胎煽动说，“红军葬的地方是‘风水宝地’，是李家渡的‘龙脉’所在。现在‘龙脉’挖断了，‘龙神’不安，只有把红军的尸体挖出来，丢到河里去，才能保住‘龙脉’，恢复‘风水’。”为了粉碎土豪劣绅的阴谋诡计，贫苦农民邓成竹等人连夜将红军烈士的棺木移葬到松涛滚滚的长岭界，周围栽上苍松翠柏。被红军救了命的王康元，每年清明节去烈士墓前祭扫。1972年他担任西中大队党支部书记后，积极倡议并在公社党委的领导下，带领本大队和李家渡的干部群众，整修了烈士墓，在墓前竖起一块烈士纪念碑，刻上“长征烈士之墓”六个大宇，两侧刻有两副对联，一副是“生的伟大，死的光荣”，另一副是“继承先烈志，永作革命人”。洞口县委和县政府已将烈士墓做为全县爱国主义教育基地。几十年来，干部、工人、农民、学生经常去墓前瞻仰、凭吊学习先烈精神，继承先烈遗志，为建设社会主义国家做贡献。
讨还血泪债
旧社会的广大农民，饱受土豪劣绅的压迫和剥削，挣扎在死亡线上。红军打击土豪劣绅，为贫苦农民求解放，因而得到他们的真诚拥护。
岩山乡沙坊院子有个土豪叫付升庭，长有一脸麻子，为人专横残忍，欺压穷人，群众都叫他升麻子。他的五个儿子个个凶残如虎，群众称他们是“五老虎”。1931年，升庭麻子准备修新屋，找来新化方师傅给他烧砖瓦。可怜方师傅辛辛苦苦一场，不但未得分文工钱，还要倒贴伙食。一气之下他推倒砖瓦垛子，满腹怨恨回新化去了。1935年，他参加了红军。12月19日，部队在岩山宿营，他
把当年在付家的遭遇和当地农民受付家欺压的情况，向部队首长做了汇报，首长同意他带三名战士去找升麻子算帐。他们操小路走到沙坊院子，把正准备逃跑的升庭麻子抓住。附近群众听说红军抓住了作恶多端的升麻子，喜得奔走相告，纷纷向红军首长揭发升麻于的罪恶。首长派出一位战士领着贫苦农民到升麻子家里，打开了付家的粮仓，把粮食分给了群众。第二天红军离开岩山时，把升麻子押到绥宁县李熙桥处决。
红军第六军团在石江处决了一贯包揽诉讼、敲榨勒索的王文祥；镇压了高沙镇街上被称为“三王五霸”之一的大恶霸、土匪袁宽：将石背乡的土豪财主尹成哉、花园乡罪大恶极的邓星芳、拒绝给红军派粮的反动保长邓陈卓三人，押到绥宁县武阳处决。广大群众拍手称快，感谢红军为自己伸了冤，讨还了血泪债。
军民鱼水情
红军到洞口之前，国民党反动派与地方反动势力制造了很多谣言，不少农民躲进山里。红军以遵纪爱民的实际行动，解除了群众的顾虑，很快，大家都回来为红军战士解决吃住问题，十分亲热。
开始岩山街上很多店门都关得紧紧的，后听到红军战士亲切地喊：“老乡们不要怕，我们红军是穷人的队伍，不会拿你们的东西，如果你们有什么吃的就卖给我们一点，我们照价付钱。”有些人从门缝中看到红军战士规规矩矩，蹲在街上，谁也不去敲店门。于是有的就拿出煮热的红薯放门口卖，战士们不讲价，说多少就是多少，只多交不少交。消息传开后，店门都开了，能吃的东西都摆出来了，附近群众家里有能吃的，都拿到街上卖。有几位战士走到林玉元老大娘面前轻声说：“大娘，天气太冷，今晚上我们想到你家里避避风寒。”大娘满脸笑容表示欢迎，战士们放下背包，就动手打扫卫生，挑水劈柴。晚上，林大娘见几个战士在灯下摆着白布比划，她猜想是把布剪做包脚布，就把“坐月子”的媳妇喊来一起帮忙，母女俩人熬了一整夜，共做好10双布袜子，正好每人一双。第二天战士们临走时再三向林大娘道谢，送给他一些白布、一床印花被面和两个圆瓷缸作为纪念。
红军关心群众，爱护群众的感人事迹，深深地感动了群众，广大农民群众从各个方面关心、爱护红军。石江缝纫师傅邱国才与其他11位师傅一起，连夜赶制军帽120顶。红军给他们每人一块银元，他们心情非常激动，你一言我一语，凑成一首诗：“红军来到石江镇，痛打土豪和劣绅，财主心怕胆又惊，穷人精神大振奋，军民连夜作军帽，同心协力杀敌人。”花园马家院子邓大妈同儿媳曾冬娥在山边土里锄草，听到山中有微弱的呻吟声，邓大妈立即放下锄头去山中寻找。果然发现一个约20岁年纪、头带八角帽的红军战士(浏阳人)躺在地上，她用手一摸额头，好烫手，又见他右脚伤口已开始流脓。她心想不能让亲人在野外活活冻死、痛死、饿死，一定要想办法救他。她喊来儿媳一起扶着伤员回到家里，让他躺在儿媳床上，儿媳拿出丈夫的蓝布旧衣服给他换上。大妈告诉伤员安心养伤，如发现有外人来就装哑巴，要儿媳认他是自己的丈夫(儿媳的丈夫在贵州做挑夫)。安排好后，大妈每天上山采药，精心护理，一周后战士的伤基本治好，他告诉大妈要去赶部队。临走那天，天刚亮大妈就起床为他准备好路上吃的东西。战士对大妈说：“大妈，你就是我的亲娘，我一定永远记住你的恩情，革命胜利了，我一定来看望你老人家。”恋恋不舍，挥手告别。
跟着红军走
广大群众切身感受到红军是自己的队伍，是自己翻身求解放的靠山，红军的道路就是自己走向解放的道路。于是，不少贫苦农民纷纷送子弟当红军，中青年更是积极踊跃，要求跟着红军走。李家渡的贫苦农民，看到20个红军战士在敌机轰炸下光荣牺牲，满怀为烈士报仇的愤怒心情和为自己求解放的强烈愿望，积极报名参加了红军。西中村的邓星怡、邓正仁、吴老晒，盲田村的邓星开，新兴
村的刘老细，木井村的陈松青，圳上的罗玉等都跟着红军走了。洞口街上邹玉和、王顺生两位缝纫师傅，被请到花园给红军制作军服，他们深为红军的精神所感动，毅然跟着红军走上了长征路。
据解放后全县初步统计，当年跟着红军走的有20多人。他们为革命做出了贡献。其中：有壮志未酬而牺牲在长征途中的革命烈士，有在抗日前线流尽最后一滴血的民族英雄，有为中国人民的解放事业和社会主义建设贡献毕生精力的人民功臣，如石江镇的王振贵，当年30岁，参加红军后编入第六军团保卫局，在17年的戎马生涯中南征北战，荣获“人民功臣”、“解放华北”、“解放西北”的纪念勋章各一枚，1952年转业到新疆工作，1965年离休，1966年元月回洞口老家定居，撰写了“夜渡金沙江”、“翻过大雪山”、“六十年春秋话往日”等革命回忆录。
